Our Sacred Aging programmes are based on an education program originally titled Conscious Aging, which was developed by the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) in Petaluma, California, USA.
IONS was founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell as a non-profit research, education and membership organization whose mission is supporting individuals and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational outreach, and engaging a global learning community in the realization of our human potential and the powers of consciousness. The word “noetic” comes from the Greek word “nous” which means intuitive mind or inner knowing.
The programme Conscious Aging was created over four years and field-tested across a broad range of practitioners and settings, including social workers, nurses, coaches, counselors, ministers, senior centers, retirement communities, churches, universities and health care facilities, and was developed for seniors who are ready to embrace their arrival into elderhood.
The Institute of Noetic Sciences believes that consciousness is essential to a paradigm shift that will lead to a more sustainable world, and supports individual and collective transformation through consciousness research, educational programs, and engagement with a global community. This translated into programmes such as the Conscious Aging workshop, which empower people to transform lives and the world.
It is the conviction of IONS that systematic inquiries into consciousness will catalyze positive concrete transformations in the world. In this process, its vision is to help birth a new worldview that recognizes our basic interconnectedness and interdependence and promotes the flourishing of life in all its magnificent forms.
